As our Relations Advisor, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of internal and external Indigenous and Community Relations strategy and policy guidelines for FWS.
This position will work collaboratively with operational and functional services leadership to deliver on Indigenous relations goals including Indigenous staff recruitment and retention; engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations; and strengthening internal awareness of Indigenous cultures, histories, and issues.
Position Overview:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous leadership and communities in all Canadian Regions. Act as a central coordination point for the navigation of relationships and partnerships between FWS and Indigenous communities, businesses, clients, and partners.
- Partner with key internal stakeholders to implement strategies and recommendations to continually strengthen Indigenous engagement and consultation in a manner that promotes collaboration and transparency with Indigenous communities and the company.
- Support/lead consultation and negotiations with Indigenous communities.
- Provide advice to the Operations team and management team on protocol and cultural related matters.
- Participates in short and long-range planning to establish Indigenous related priorities and opportunities for strategic partnerships.
Qualifications Needed:
- Post-secondary education in the skilled trades, communications, marketing, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Indigenous relations, the trades or other related field is required.
- Strong understanding and awareness of Indigenous cultures and communities from a historical and current perspective.
- Ability to effectively communicate and liaise with a diverse group of stakeholders including Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to comfortably speak in front of groups, including experience with classroom instruction.
- Proficiency with using a computer and software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Ability to travel to Indigenous communities and/or FWS project locations on a frequent basis is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Priority will be given to qualified Indigenous candidates.
