Skid steers, also known as skid loaders, are compact, engine-powered machines essential in various construction projects. Their load capacity ranges from 800 lbs to two tons, and they come in different frame sizes and engine power, allowing them to fit a broad scope of work. Adhering To Safe Work Practices
Operating a skid steer safely requires adherence to specific practices. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for both operation and maintenance. Never attempt maintenance or other work on the machine while lift arms or attachments are raised unless using approved lift arm support devices. Replace protective guards and shields after repairs to ensure safety. Only operate a skid steer if you have received proper training and stay within the equipment's load limit to prevent incidents.
Maintaining A Safe Work Environment
It is crucial to maintain a safe environment around the skid steer. Ensure that no one stands or passes under the elevated portions of the machine, whether it is loaded or empty. The lifting mechanism should not be used as a work platform or for riding. Lower the load entirely and neutralize the controls when leaving the skid steer unattended. Before exiting the unit, fully disengage the controls.

Be aware of overhead clearance and only attempt to activate the controls if you are properly seated with the seatbelt fastened and the seat bar lowered if required. Keep all body parts inside the cab during operation, and never modify or turn off safety systems. If you find a defective or unsafe skid steer, take it out of service immediately until authorized personnel can repair it.
