FWS Group partnered with Cargill Limited to design and construct a state-of-the-art Fertilizer Storage & Distribution Facility on a greenfield site in McLennan, Alberta. This comprehensive project was aimed at supporting bulk granular fertilizer handling, blending, and distribution to meet the growing demands of the agricultural sector.

The primary goals of the project were:

• To develop a high-capacity storage solution for 13,405 metric tonnes (MT) of bulk granular fertilizer.
• To incorporate efficient blending and distribution processes for seamless fertilizer management.
• To create robust infrastructure, including a rail receiving and loadout system, to streamline logistics and reduce transit times.
• To ensure safety and regulatory compliance in fertilizer and chemical handling operations.

The project integrated advanced technologies and innovative solutions, including:

• Bulk Granular Fertilizer Storage: Designed to support the large-scale storage and handling of diverse fertilizer types.
• Chemical Storage Warehouse: A dedicated, 50’ x 120’ warehouse, equipped for safe and compliant chemical storage.
• Rail Receiving and Loadout System: Engineered to accommodate up to 110 railcars, improving the efficiency of fertilizer transport and distribution.
• Distribution and Blending Facility: Implemented to enable precise fertilizer blending, ensuring accuracy and operational excellence.

The completed facility achieved the following outcomes:

• Significantly increased storage capacity, enabling 13,405 MT of bulk granular fertilizer to be stored and distributed efficiently.
• Enhanced logistics through the 110-railcar capacity system, reducing delays and improving supply chain operations.
• Improved operational safety and compliance with the inclusion of a dedicated chemical storage warehouse.
• Optimized fertilizer blending and distribution processes, delivering greater service capacity to meet agricultural demands.
