Reflecting on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30, 2024

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge the importance of this day in recognizing the history and lasting impacts of residential schools on Indigenous communities across Canada. This day is a reminder of the ongoing need to address the injustices faced by Indigenous peoples. At FWS, we understand our role in fostering meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities. These partnerships are central to our work and involve collaboration with Indigenous communities across Canada. Working together creates opportunities that benefit the communities we partner with and our growth.

Recruitment and Training

Our commitment to Indigenous communities involves creating pathways to meaningful employment and skills development. We actively seek to hire from within these communities, offering training programs that equip individuals with the skills needed for careers in construction. Our training initiatives include safety training, personal protective equipment instruction, and specialized courses such as fall arrest and powered mobile equipment training. Our training is not just a means to fill positions within our company; it is about empowering individuals with skills they can use to further their careers, whether with us or elsewhere.

Social Impact and Community Engagement

We are dedicated to making a difference economically and socially through sponsorships and participation in events like the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women campaigns and local powwows. These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to engaging with Indigenous communities beyond business interests. We understand the importance of standing by our promises and being accountable to the communities we serve. This is why we have made Indigenous awareness training mandatory within our company, ensuring that our team is equipped to engage respectfully and effectively.

Commitment and Responsibility

Our relationships with Indigenous communities are not static; they continuously evolve as we seek new opportunities for collaboration and growth. We understand that our responsibility extends beyond the projects we work on. It includes a commitment to the Calls to Action and engaging with Indigenous nations in a way that leads to the betterment of their communities. As we look to the future, we are focused on strengthening past relationships while exploring new opportunities.

We invite anyone interested in working with us or learning more about our initiatives to contact us. We are here to engage, collaborate, and create lasting impact together.
